Even though Kim Rae Won initially had a big dream as a professional basketball player, he decided to give up on his dream after injuring his ankle.
Because of that, he then started acting by debuting in the 1997 drama series Me, which later was followed by his role in School 2 (1999) and Plum Blossom (2000).
His role in Plum Blossom later gave him an award as Best New Actor for the 2000 Blue Dragon Film Awards.
Raewon began to be popular after starring in a romantic-comedy drama, My Love Patzzi (2002), which later was followed by his iconic role in Cats on the Roof (2003).
